A vocational training course in Germany is a highly regarded qualification and is one of the best of its kind anywhere in the world. There are approximately 330 vocational sectors. A traineeship requires applicants to have completed a period of school education lasting between 10 and 13 years and lasts between 2 and 3.5 years. Following successful completion of exams, trainees receive a nationally recognized qualification.

In order to complete a vocational traineeship in Germany, you also require a language certificate demonstrating at least B1-proficiency according to the European frame of reference.

A dual vocational traineeship requires you to learn both at a vocational college and on the job. Trainees have a contract with a company responsible for their training and receive a traineeship salary for the duration of their course. There are no fees to be paid.

There are also vocational colleges for specific sectors, e.g. the health sector (nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy). Studies here are also combined with on-the-job training. As a general rule, private vocational colleges also charge a monthly tuition fee.
